Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge PlazaSan Francisco, CaliforniaNo San Francisco visit is complete without seeing this world-famous masterpiece! Completed in 1937 after four years of construction, the Golden Gate Bridge was once called “the bridge that couldn’t be built” due to the treacherous currents, frequent fog (locals refer to as Karl), and strong winds. Engineer Joseph Strauss and his team proved the doubters wrong, creating what many consider the most beautiful bridge in the world.
Standing 746 feet tall with its distinctive International Orange color (chosen for visibility in San Francisco’s famous fog), the Golden Gate Bridge spans 1.7 miles across the Golden Gate strait. During construction, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world and remains an engineering marvel today.
